Winner of Ursa Major awards's "Best Anthropomorphic Comic Strip" 2009-2017, Housepets! takes you to the friendly, energetic suburb of Babylon Gardens, a place where pets and humans are alike in wit (but not in world-shattering mischief!) This is a comic about sentient anthropomorphic pets (and sentient non-pets!) going on everyday adventures, from roleplaying Shakespeare classics to exploring the ends of the earth to get to their friends, acompanied by fate-altering nerdy board game extrapalooza!

With many anthropomorphic pets, ferals and mystical artifacts, Babylon Gardens attracts many varied residents and visitors, such as a sassy fortune-telling apprentice cat, stingy billionaire mustelids, overly enthusiastic-but-also-strict K-9 dogs, buff feline princes and many more! The adventures often draw in new faces (sometimes unwillingly!), and no fate-of-the-world adversity will affect the bonds that they create!

Glad I stumbled upon it
Thanks really should go to The Belfry since I found it through the "People who read x also read y" thing in the info. Just sat for a couple hours catching up from 2008 or something. I have to admit I skipped most of the super dog comics, but I love pretty much everything else in it. But I'm a sucker for characters like Sasha and Daisy (who doesn't have a lot of parts admittedly), and for comics which start off silly but start going to strange, dramatic, and metaphysical places occasionally.

so it turns out...
*a little weirdness and creepiness is ok if the humor and story is great
*dogs aren't dumb, they just don't feel the need to be surprised when something unexpected happens.

This one is worth checking out, as you will know within the first 30 comics if it is your cup of tea.

Long info page, long review
"Behold the housecat,
The fearsome elect!
She's not quite a tiger
As one would expect.

Yet while they sleep,
And dream of thier fishes.
Tis fun to 'cite poems
Pond ‘ring on o'er their wishes.

Their wake time’s a hobby,
Their sleep like a job.
All this I learned
Reading Calvin and Hobbes.

Alas, we must end with,
(Just cause it’s so funny)
My imminent mauling
When I burp her tummy!"

This isn't you normal "dog and cat" comic (that the dog character breaking the dumb dog character mould above). Terrific artist Rick Griffin tries his paw at comic making and does an amazing job. The humor bounces between poetic and slapstick, ironic and "punny", sophisticated and just plain old silly.

With a hefty trump of all very unique and interesting characters, you figured the only last downfall would be the art...

Too bad the art not only starts great, but gets better and now updates three times a week with full color.

Did I mention how amazing this comic is?
