Description*:This is a piece of comic history that fell into my lap recently. "Tom and Ed," a serialized plot-driven comic strip by Al Ryan, was drawn and submitted to syndicates in 1924. It was rejected because the artist was only 16 years old at the time.

The comic is a detective-style comic. Think of it as a mix between the Hardy Boys and Dick Tracy. There are 21 individual comics in the set, telling the opening to a much larger story arc that sadly was never completed.

Al Ryan passed away in 1983, and his family only just recently found this cache of comics in his belongings in the attic. They asked me to restore them, and I have received their permission to publish them online once they are completed.

This is a rare glimpse into comic history -- a rejected comic from the budding golden age of newspaper comic strips, which had all of the elements in place to be one of the greats if it had been accepted. I'll be registering a blog-style website to chronicle my progress, share the restoration process, and ask for help/feedback on how to approach it. Stay tuned for more. -Jonathan Ponikvar, "Peter And Company"
